Best February Getaways in Tanzania

Your February Travel Bucket List

February is calving season at its peak on the Ndutu plains, Ngorongoro Crater continues to deliver reliable game viewing, and Zanzibar's beaches are warm and dry — a strong month to pair safari with sand.

Ndutu, Southern Serengeti

Ndutu, Southern Serengeti

Season: Dry season  •  Average Temperature: 25°C to 30°C
  • What: Peak calving season, with thousands of wildebeest calves born daily.
  • Why: This is the most concentrated predator-prey activity of the entire migration cycle.
  • When to Book: Book six months or more ahead — February is one of the busiest months at Ndutu.
  • Good to Know: Early-morning drives offer the best light and the calmest predator activity.

For a short window each February, the Ndutu plains become one of the most concentrated wildlife spectacles on the continent, as newborn calves and their mothers draw lion, cheetah and hyena into near-constant view.

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater

Season: Dry season  •  Average Temperature: 20°C to 25°C
  • What: Consistently excellent Big Five viewing inside the crater.
  • Why: February's dry, settled weather keeps conditions on the crater floor at their best.
  • When to Book: Book crater descent permits alongside your Ndutu dates.
  • Good to Know: Pairs naturally with Ndutu as part of a single northern-circuit itinerary.

Excellent conditions carry over from January, with the crater's resident wildlife populations offering some of the most reliable sightings anywhere in Tanzania.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro

Season: Dry season  •  Average Temperature: Varies sharply by altitude
  • What: Continued clear-sky climbing conditions before the March rains arrive.
  • Why: One of the more reliable months for a stable, dry summit push.
  • When to Book: Book at least a few months ahead for guides and route permits.
  • Good to Know: Crowds are lighter than the June–October climbing season.

February keeps Kilimanjaro's dry-season conditions in place, and with fewer climbers on the mountain than the mid-year peak, it can feel like a quieter, more personal ascent.

Zanzibar

Zanzibar

Season: Dry season  •  Average Temperature: 28°C to 32°C
  • What: Warm, dry beach conditions on the Indian Ocean coast.
  • Why: February sits within Zanzibar's driest, sunniest stretch of the year.
  • When to Book: A natural add-on after a safari — book flights and beach stays together.
  • Good to Know: Water visibility is excellent for diving and snorkelling this time of year.

After days on safari, February's calm seas and reliable sunshine make Zanzibar an easy, low-effort finish — whether that's Stone Town's alleyways or simply a stretch of white sand.
